Summit Environmental is an independent asbestos consultancy offering a comprehensive range of services inclusive of;
- Asbestos sampling and surveys,
- Asbestos air monitoring
- Asbestos remediation and remediation management
- Asbestos consultancy
Identification of asbestos within buildings/vessels/land and the environment allows long term management or safe systems of work to be employed which lowers the risks that asbestos pose.
Asbestos Surveys
Management Surveys.
Management surveys are typically undertaken to comply with The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 (CAR2012). The purpose of a management survey is to locate, as far as reasonably practicable, the presence and extent of any suspect ACMs in the building which could be damaged or disturbed during the normal occupation and use of the building to ensure continued management of the Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM’s)
Re-inspection Surveys.
Asbestos-containing materials (ACM’s) are subject to potential damage and degradation over time. Re-inspection asbestos surveys are designed to monitor and record the condition of any previously identified asbestos. This will allow long term management of ACM’s.
Refurbishment Surveys.
This type of survey is more intrusive than a management survey. A refurbishment survey is required for all work which is likely to disturb the fabric of the building. This will include areas where the management survey has not been intrusive
Demolition surveys.
Are fully intrusive and are designed to identify all asbestos-containing materials using fully destructive techniques. The survey will be fully intrusive, as necessary, to gain access to all areas, including those that may be difficult to reach.
All surveys are completed in line with HSG264 the survey guide. Contact us now to book in your asbestos survey.

Asbestos Air Monitoring
Asbestos becomes a hazard to health when asbestos fibres become airborne. Asbestos air monitoring is used during and after any asbestos remediation works. Air monitoring can also used to assess background airborne fibre levels within locations and to asses correct levels of respiratory protective equipment.
Summit Environmental is able to provide UKAS accredited asbestos fibre air monitoring on site for the duration of your project. All air monitoring is completed in line with the HSE guidance HSG 248.
Asbestos Remediation Management
In most cases, there is no danger from asbestos as long as the materials that contain the asbestos are intact and undamaged. Fibre release can occur if you disturb ACM’s during renovations or repairs, or if material containing asbestos becomes damaged. Remediation services include;
- Writing and preparing asbestos removal specification documents
- Writing, preparing and evaluating asbestos removal tender documentation
- Vetting of method statements and plans of work
- Full site management and supervision of contractors works
- Update asbestos registers following works
- Instructing the approved Asbestos Removal Contractor
- Ensuring compliance with current regulations
Land contamination
Summit Environmental upon request will complete;
Investigations
To confirm whether asbestos is present we can undertake a historical data study or complete a site-specific sampling of visible asbestos present on surface soils. Additional site investigation techniques to investigate further below the surface, such as the use of boreholes, trial pits, or trenches can also be used /provided to identify the presence of asbestos.
Quantifications
Once the samples are taken Summit Environmental can complete quantification analysis on the amount of asbestos and types of ACM’s present. Samples are weighed and measured as a % of the total sample weight. Asbestos fibres are quantified by sedimentation of the sample in water which is subsequently analysed Using Phase Contrast Optical Microscopy (PCOM). Leading to a Waste classification of the soil.
Remediation
Once asbestos has been identified and assessed as containing waste materials, Summit Environmental can manage the remediation process for you. This can include excavation and removal to capping with provision of control measures to minimise asbestos exposure.
Consultancy
Asbestos legislation is particularly complex; the penalties for not managing your requirements can be severe; many clients ask for assistance in the management of their compliance and risk management. Consultancy advice often involves providing advice on surveys or regulations to expert witness and completing investigations on potential asbestos exposures.
Summit Environmental regularly prepares and reviews remediation scopes; we are also able to provide project management on large scale asbestos survey and abatement projects.
Alternatively allow us to improve your asbestos compliance by completing gap analysis, reviewing previous asbestos information and implementing the correct asbestos management requirements.
Asbestos Management Plans.
Asbestos Management Plans – The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 states that all duty holders with known or presumed asbestos within their premises must have an effective written asbestos management plan in place. The asbestos management plan identifies the risks posed by the asbestos present in the property and sets out procedures to control them. The key to effective management is to ensure that the action plan is monitored and reviewed on a regular basis.
